The Bartram Heritage Report

Foreword

The Bartram Heritage Report is the culmination of the Bartram Heritage Study that was proposed to the US Department of the Interior by the Bartram Trial Conference in 1977. It was suggested then, and serves now, as a complement to the Interior Department’s Bartram Trail feasibility study authorized by the National Trails Act of 1968, as amended by Public Law 94-527.

The scope of the Bartram Heritage Program considered in this report goes beyond the possible establishment of a Bartram National Scenic Trail and incorporates a wide range of other heritage-related ideas. The designation and construction of any Bartram Trail would be a very important part of the overall Bartram Heritage, but other means of recognizing William Bartram’s many contributions to America’s natural and cultural history are felt to be equally important to the overall Heritage effort.
